Collection 11 Sector Equity for Anti-Racism in the Arts (SEARA)

Contributors

Start year: 2026

This collection documents the research and artistic outcomes of Sector Equity for Anti-Racism in the Arts (SEARA), a 221A initiative examining racial equity within British Columbia’s arts, culture, and heritage sector. The collection centres on the ARTSTATUS research project and includes research publications, a working reference library assembled during the research process, and original artworks commissioned in response to the project’s findings. The reference materials bring together writing on institutional power, cultural policy, and racial equity in the arts. Commissioned works by participating artists respond to themes arising from the research through painting, comics, illustrated text, and moving image. Together, the materials document both the research process and the ways artists engaged with questions and ideas that emerged from the research itself.
