
Julia Aoki is an administrator, writer, researcher, and advocate. She has served as Program Manager at SFU's Vancity Office of Community Engagement, Executive Director of Megaphone magazine, General Manager of VIVO Media Arts Centre, and General Manager and Programming Director of the Powell Street Festival. Julia is now a research manager working at the intersection of Indigenous tenant organizing and cultural programming in SROs in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, and community-centred scholarship and knowledge mobilization. She holds an MA in Communication and Cultural Studies from York University and her past writing can be found in Megaphone, TOPIA, Space and Culture, and the edited volume Communication, Culture and Making Meaning in the City (Lexington Books, 2017).
Julia is currently an advisor to the 221A People Committee for SEARA.
