The project space is a small store-front that is operated by a project committee made up of artists and designers who select, edit, and formulate projects.
The projects do not need to generate income or be reputable for its selection. This alleviates the need for projects to satisfy wider market constraints and allows our participants to focus on addressing social or cultural agendas. However, we do recognise that the market is a significant player in social or cultural agendas, and see that access to commercial activity may be of great use. While the ability to work within the project space without needing to make money is important, we do not wish to compartmentalize the project space away from larger market systems. We invite artists, designers and curators to take advantage of our commercially oriented storefront if it sees to their social or cultural agenda.
To honour the past energy of the 1912 heritage building, the space was designed with one interior wall of the brick bare behind a suspended wall. The un-even concrete floors are also left exposed showing its extensive use and markings from the past 100 years of operation. One of the most defining functions, and newest member of the physical space is the non-load bearing movable partition which expands and shrinks the project space. While the primary use of the project space is for exhibitions it is also used for a assortment of other activities such as the pact.
