Art Worker Diary: A Writing Workshop

Art Worker Diary: A Writing Workshop

Contributor

Noted* is a guest interpretation series inviting writers in the community to create an original text responding to an item or object in the 221A Fellowship Library.

In anticipation of Jacquelyn Zong-Li Ross’s interpretation of Fuse Magazine: Do Less from the 221A Collection 2005–, we invite artists, writers, organizers, and workers of all kinds to join in this intimate, two-hour writing workshop exploring the ongoing problem of how to live, work, and make art under capitalism.

What does artistic labour look and feel like? How is it informed by the paid and unpaid labour we perform daily? How does the cult of productivity, optimization, and innovation influence the artist’s capacity to challenge, resist, or make anew—and what value do we place on this ingenuity?

Through a series of readings and generative writing exercises, participants will consider how writing can be a tool for processing and organizing discontents—writing against the kinds of conditions that cast art-making as somehow periphery to the act of living.

This workshop is free.

  • 6-person limit
  • Snacks and drinks provided
  • Participants are encouraged to bring their own notebook and stationary items

Photography will be taken at this event for use on 221A’s website, marketing and as part of documentation for our archives at the 221A Fellowship Library.
