Cathy Xu (they/she) is an emerging artist, writer, home cook, and a second-generation Chinese settler. Their writing and art tell stories about diaspora, time, food and medicine. Their work has been published in SAD Magazine, ReIssue, with Future Arts Network, and as a group-illustrated card deck, titled Let’s Walk Chinatown! During their master’s in English, they researched non-linear time in Asian Canadian art and literature as frameworks for finding reference points between Asian and Indigenous histories and communities and building coalition. They are bringing their experiences in non-profit communications and fundraising at the Pacific Immigrant Resources Society and as the former web editor at SAD Magazine. They currently volunteer as Project Lead at Chinatown Today. 

As Assistant Storyteller, Cathy brings their skills in writing and community engagement to support 221A’s initiatives in enabling artists’ living and work and to highlight the stories of 221A’s community and tenants.
