Tarin Hughes

Tarin Hughes is a curator and writer based in Saskatoon, Canada where she is currently the Executive Director of AKA artist-run. Hughes received her B.A. in Art History from the University of Waterloo and as a student began her work as Director/Curator of the University of Waterloo’s Artery Gallery, a student gallery initiated by artist and Professor Emeritus, Art Green. She has worked in various arts administrator and educator positions across Canada, including the University of Waterloo Art Gallery, the Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery, Gallery Stratford and the Kamloops Art Gallery. Recent and upcoming curatorial projects include: David Jensenius, The Elora Piano; Soft Turns: Through the Window; Maggie Groat and Barbara Hobot: Untitled (new visions) and To Space To Place at Schleifmühlgasse 12-14, Vienna, Austria. Hughes’ curatorial practice incorporates considerations of development and gentrification, authentic histories, alternative realities and possible futures. Her current research is also informed by the evolving role of the artist-run centre.
