Kimberly Phillips

Kimberly Phillips (Vancouver) holds a doctorate in art history from the University of British Columbia and is a 2012-13 Curatorial Resident at 221A. Her academic focus is on contemporary art, with special research interests sited at the convergence of discourses on the politics of memory, identity, and artistic interventions in urban space. Her doctoral dissertation and post-doctoral fellowship work explored the complexity of memory negotiated through public art in post-1989 Berlin. She has a burgeoning private curatorial practice and regularly teaches courses on the history and theory of museums, cultural theory and the history of visual culture at Emily Carr University and the University of British Columbia. Currently she works at the Vancouver Art Gallery, where she writes the interpretation for exhibitions.
