Ryu Hankil

Ryu Hankil is the founder of The Manual, an independent publisher in Seoul, Korea that hosts improvised music and experimental collaborative projects. He organized a monthly experimental sound improvisation project RELAY from 2005 to 2009, as a means to share his vision and enthusiasm for experimental sound art. He is also an active member of FEN (Far East Network), a musical collaborative project between Tokyo, Beijing, Singapore and Seoul. Over the past few years he has toured major cities in Europe, including London, Manchester, Prague, Oslo, Berlin and Utrecht. His recent projects have engaged his longstanding interest in finding alternatives for existing communication structures through experimenting with vibrations in abandoned objects, such as clockworks, typewriters and telephones. Currently he is working on the collaborative project A Typist with local poets and writers lo wie, Kim Taeyong and Lee Youngji.
