221A is seeking applications from eligible candidates for the role of Summer Intern. The Summer Intern will provide a broad range of support to 221A’s staff in the operation of the organization’s range of programs and services; this includes research assistance, day-to-day program operations, preparatory and technical work, communications and meetings support. The incumbent must be reliable and organized, capable of taking on a variety of tasks, and demonstrate an aptitude to learn and excel in the non-profit art and cultural sector. The incumbent should ideally have some experience working in a collaborative office environment.

221A Welcomes Madison Mayhew

221A is pleased to welcome Madison Mayhew as its Admin Assistant.

In 2017, Mayhew graduated from Emily Carr University’s Critical and Cultural Practice program with a minor in Social Practice and Community Engagement. Since then, she’s spent time creating and delivering arts programming for elementary school students in East Vancouver, always contextualized in relation to contemporary pedagogical social practice artwork, as well as working on her zine project, Horticultural Counterpowers, a collection of art criticism and critical theory essays about how plant life figures, metaphorically and literally, within Marxist conceptions of urban space. In her role as Admin Assistant, Mayhew will support the financial administration, communications and operations of 221A.

221A welcomes Tessa Tomlinson & Courtenay Mayes

221A is pleased to welcome Tessa Tomlinson as its Librarian, Collections and Courtenay Mayes as its Coordinator, Operations.

Tomlinson is a recent graduate of the Library and Information Sciences Masters program at the University of British Columbia. Tomlinson takes on the role of managing and activating 221A’s growing Pollyanna 圖書館 Library Collection. Her role builds on the work of Hannah Dempsey, who departed in late summer to attend graduate school in library sciences and was the organization’s inaugural Collections Librarian.

2018-19 Board Members

At the 2018 Annual General Meeting, members in good standing elected a slate of candidates to serve as Board Members, holding office until the close of the 2019 AGM.

221A thanked outgoing Board Members Naomi Sawada (2015–2018) and Miyo Takeda (2016–2018) for their years of service and welcomed new members Am Johal and Linus Lam.
