221A is delighted to announce the appointment of new board members. On September 25, 2023, the Society’s membership gathered at the newly built Exhibition & Learning Room at 825 Pacific Street for the 16th Annual General Meeting. Members received reports on the activities of the 2022-23 fiscal year from Virginia Hong, Chair and Brian McBay, Executive Director, including the presentation of the Audited Financial Statements.
Ingrid Valou, Rawan Hassan, Reiko Pleau and Tamara Goddard were elected for a term of three years (2023–26), joining long-standing members Marisa Espinosa, Neeta Soni, Virginia Hong (2021–24), alongside recently elected members Kathy Feng and Krystal Paraboo. The Society thanks all members for their ongoing support and their participation in the AGM.
Virginia Hong appointed Chair, Krystal Paraboo as Vice-Chair

Further to the election of the Board of Directors, the Board made the following appointments:
- Virginia Hong (2021–24) as Chair of the Board
- Krystal Paraboo (2022–25) as Vice-Chair of the Board
- Marisa Espinosa (2021–24) as Chair of the Governance Committee
- Kathy Feng (2022–25) as Chair of People & Culture Committee
- Neeta Soni (2021–24) as Chair of the Advancement & Programs Committee
Virginia Hong will also serve as interim Chair of Finance and Chair of Space until a successor is appointed.
Outgoing Board Members
221A gives thanks to outgoing Board Members: Jeff Derksen, Julia Aoki, Katy Young, whose terms (2020–23) had come to a close at the 2023 AGM. “Over the years, 221A has been so fortunate to have these community leaders on our Board,” says McBay. “From Katy Young’s architectural expertise on the Space committee to Julia Aoki’s thoughtful social policy contributions to the People & Culture committee to Jeff Derksen’s consistent voice advocating for artistic self-determination. We wish to thank our outgoing Board Members for their service and ongoing contributions in the community.” Julia Aoki and Jeff Derksen will continue to engage with 221A as Advisors on the People & Culture Committee and Space Committee respectively.

221A is a non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors who supervise and advise management and set the long-term direction of the Society. The Board of Directors place review and approve plans, budgets and policies, delegating day-to-day responsibilities to the Executive Director and staff.
