Duane Linklater is Omaskêko Cree from Moose Cree First Nation in Northern Ontario. Born in 1976, he holds bachelor’s degrees in fine art and Native studies from the University of Alberta (2005) and a master’s degree in film and video from the Milton Avery Graduate School of Arts at Bard College (2012). Throughout 2017, Duane along with Tanya Lukin Linklater, cheyanne turions and Walter Scott, have renamed SBC Gallery of Contemporary Art, Montreal, as Wood Land School: Drawing A Line from January to December and they will offer a program that is structured as a single exhibition unfolding over the course of a year. Recent exhibitions include Duane Linklater: From Our Hands with Ethel Linklater (Trapper) and Tobias Linklater, 80WSE, New York; Duane Linklater: From Our Hands, Mercer Union, Toronto; Parallel Excavations, with Tanya Lukin Linklater at the Art Gallery of Alberta, Edmonton and he participated in the SeMa Biennale in Seoul (all 2016). Duane was the recipient of the Sobey Art Award in 2013, he is represented by Catriona Jeffries Gallery, Vancouver, and lives with his family in North Bay.
